Re: recommend blu-ray player?
Raspberry Pi *definitely* the way to go, I would say on the whole it works better than the PS3. I'm an old Linux fan so tried to use Raspbian and install something else, but turns out OSMC is the best fit out of the box - really it's like the RP was made for just this sort of use.

Re: recommend blu-ray player?
There will be better options than the PS but can't recommend anything. If you just want a media player then maybe something that will run Kodi and keep the PS for DVDs and Blurays. I've heard you can run it on cheap android box or even a RaspberryPI if you can get one. gak! this is why I ask stupid...

Re: recommend blu-ray player?
I guess basically my question is, how well will a standalone Sony or LG DVD blu-ray player work as a client? Clearly I've been spoiled by the PS, since for instance the Roku DLNA app is pretty bad. Obviously, the PS is pretty much a fairly powerful computer, but if I could find something new for $15...

recommend blu-ray player?
My PS is getting long in the tooth and it's about time for me to upgrade it but since I don't game much these days might as well just get a decent blu-ray player. Looking for recommendations for a blu-ray player with an Ethernet port that does a great job handling UMS.

Sony SRS-ZR7 Hi-Res Wireless Bluetooth Speaker
thinking of buying one or two of these speakers (they do wi-fi as well as BT), which are said to be DNLA-compliant -- they're on Massdrop for $180. I don't mind trying to come up with a conf file: is there a renderer for a standalone speaker that might be worth starting from?

Re: Onkyo stopped playing music files
Many thanks to you both for shedding light on this situation with your informed posts -- I am guessing it wasn't so much the firmware upgrade which cleared things up, rather the reset after, but of course I really don't know. Going to see if I can find a diagram of the innards & see if it won't ...

Re: Onkyo stopped playing music files
Thanks for taking the time to look, Nadahar. It's very strange. I had shipped it back 2.5 years ago for probably the same fix & it had worked fine since then. Just now upgraded the firmware, and -- it gets weirder -- it's now playing *most* of my flac files, but still chokes on the ones from tha...

Onkyo stopped playing music files
I've been able to happily play flac files on UMS for quite a few UMS releases under half a dozen versions of Ubuntu, but something seems to have happened the last few days, and for some very peculiar reason, my Onkyo TX-8050 no longer plays them or for that matter mp3s (?!). I've toggled ffmpeg vers...
