Okay, followed these steps and got these results:
1) no UMS installed and folders deleted from C:\ProgramData and C:\Program Files (x86)
2) installed 14.5.0 with "Clean install" set - this tested broken as described above
3) uninstalled program and deleted all folders
4) installed 14.4.0 with ...

I installed v14.5.0 today completely from scratch (because of a bug in earlier versions) and now almost nothing works. I'd say about 95% of my library returns either a "Media Server Error: A Network Error Has Occurred" or "Media Type Not Supported", when of course everything worked before ...
