UMS 10.6/10.7 issues

Post by Rodney Razorshorts »

Continuing from the original topic so that I could add attachments: viewtopic.php?p=44010#p44010
I can't get the bug to happen again because now the app is just not connecting with my TV at all, even though it appears in the status window. I'm also experiencing a lot of weird interface hiccups which I screencapped, and as I captured in the last file, the DPI has gone crazy since this update (I'm using an A-51 with Win10 and I've had these DPI with other programs, but not with UMS until 10.6)

Thanks for all this information, let's take one problem at a time. First let's solve the connection problem, can you please follow the instructions at https://support.universalmediaserver.co ... s-renderer and see if that lets your TV see UMS?

I've tried that and the TV does not appear. I went through all the options anyway and nothing changes.

I can see that your network adapter is "Killer(R) Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i 160MHz Wireless Network Adapter (201NGW)", is that connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your TV? Are there any other network factors like range extenders?

Yes they are both connected, and we use extenders but neither my PC nor TV are connected to them. Killer does not appear in UMS settings, and vice versa.

Is there an older version of UMS that does connect? It would be good to get logs from that one if so. I have left some notes below but it all looks good to me based on the logs

It seems from the logs that UMS is bound to 192.168.1.114 and your Samsung TV is on 192.168.1.9, which looks good because those first 3 numbers are the same, which means multicast should work.
There is another renderer "TMM RVU Client MediaRenderer found on address: 169.254.5.225" which wouldn't work for that reason.

I can see a lot of success for the Samsung TV in UMS where we have recognised some UPnP capabilities:

Code: Select all

DEBUG 2021-07-13 13:47:41.295 [cling-12] net.pms.network.UPNPControl Subscription established: ConnectionManager on DIRECTV Mediashare Renderer
DEBUG 2021-07-13 13:47:41.311 [cling-12] net.pms.network.UPNPControl Subscription established: RenderingControl on DIRECTV Mediashare Renderer
DEBUG 2021-07-13 13:47:41.327 [cling-7] net.pms.network.UPNPControl Subscription established: RenderingControl on [TV] Samsung 6 Series (70)
DEBUG 2021-07-13 13:47:41.327 [cling-12] net.pms.network.UPNPControl Subscription established: ConnectionManager on [TV] Samsung 6 Series (70)
DEBUG 2021-07-13 13:47:41.330 [cling-12] net.pms.network.UPNPControl Subscription established: AVTransport on [TV] Samsung 6 Series (70)
DEBUG 2021-07-13 13:47:41.330 [cling-14] net.pms.network.UPNPControl Subscription established: StreamSplicing on [TV] Samsung 6 Series (70)
and we have successfully pinged it for our network speed estimates:

Code: Select all

Renderer [TV] Samsung 6 Series (70) has an estimated network speed of 9.983658701052043 Mb/s

I see what you mean, the problem is that the (70) is in a different room, mine is (65), which also shares the first set of numbers in its IP. So a TV I never use UMS with in another room using an extender can connect with it, but the one I've used for a couple of years in the same room with a direct connection is incompatible after the updates. I installed again 10.5 and the Samsung 6 Series (65) appears on the app, but not vice versa. (All the new interface bugs are occurring on the older version now too).
However, I went all the way to 10.4.1, and everything works like normal, so it seems like I can just never update?

I'm still interested in working with you to fix the problem, so that you can update. We just need to figure out why this is happening and fix it.
In 10.5.0 we rolled back the embedded Java version to 8.0 instead of 15, which was supposed to fix bugs like this but maybe it didn't.

Please try these steps to see if they affect the problem:
1) Install the latest version of UMS
2) In File Explorer, go into "C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server"
3) Rename the directory "jre8" to "jre8-bak"
4) Rename the directory "jre15" to "jre8"

Then run the program and see if it works. That will let us know if it is related to the java version
