Looking for media renderer for Panasonic DMP-BDT330

Post by CappySpectrum »

Hi there,

Been using Universal Media Server on OS X 10.8 for a long time now via Samsung All Share and until now I'm first starting to encounter problems with a new player, Panasonic DMP-BDT330. Most of my *.mkv files are playing fine via DNLA but UMS is detecting the player as a Vizio Smart TV with both versions of UMS 2.6.5 and 3.0.0-a5.

With UMS 2.6.5 Underworld Awakening is playing fine until about 10 seconds in and stops playing with no error messages in the log. With UMS 3.0.0-a5 Underworld Awakening consistently keeps stopping with no error until 2 minutes 06 seconds into the film. Exactly the same point everytime and this is via ethernet.

Yet Underworld, Underworld Evolution and Rise of the Lycans all seem to be playing fine. Not ran into any problems. Even tried rebuilding Underworld Awakening but the same problems keep encountering.

Game of Thrones is another set that concs out soon as it starts playing after 3 seconds.

Can anyone advise? thanks!

In order to identify the best possible "User-Info" is to go looking in the Debug.log file.

Straight copy of the debug log. Is this right? not sure what you mean on trace. As all this information is way beyond me.

Looking in the log it seems I'm running out of buffer?

I've restored Maximum bandwidth in Mb to 100 since I am connected to one 100Mb router. I'd have to switch to the 1Gb router for 0. Restored Maximum transcode buffer to 200, originally set to 100. Changed the order in video engines to FFmpeg to the top and unchecked MPlayer Audio Automatic resampling. Now Underworld Awakening has been playing fluidly for over 15 minutes.

Excellent. Now it seems to be hardly using any cpu. Before it was using like 40% or so. It's only using about 3 - 4%.

Game of Thrones is playing correctly as well.

Strange, there's one I've come across thats using 25 - 35% usage. So far everything else is using very little, less than 5%. Ah, seems it was DTS HD causing it. Whats the optimal audio settings to convert it to DD 5.1? as it appears to be rubber banding with those.

I think I've fixed the rubber banding with the DTS HD for now but if I could find a way so that every file played is using less than 5% like the rest...

It appears the rubber banding with DTS HD is UniversalMediaServer is using all my system memory, 14GB.

Well thats good then...

If its using next to nothing CPU then its more than likely streaming the content to your device instead of transcoding/remuxing the content.

Ideally if you want the DTS to play you should have a receiver that can decode it... otherwise what ever the defaults of the UMS install should be fine.

I stream to my Samsung TV with 5.1 selected and it works fine.

I'm puzzled why the default audio settings section says AC-3 encoding is 640. Then under the help section it says:
AC-3 Audio bitrate (in Kbits/s)
Here you set the quality of digital audio sound. Your AV-receiver or amplifier has to be capable of playing this quality. Default value is 384.
