No web interface and ums connecting to localhost 9001

Post by gottuhaveit »

Ok I tried to figure out what in the world is going on with UMS. It all started when it was not showing up anywhere on my network. I went thru many scenarios before discovering the issue. When UMS starts up it finds no renderers and it brings up localhost 9001 instead of my isp. I have to click on the restart button a couple times and it switches to my isp and then UMS shows up as well as all my renderers. My web interface is also greyed out and I cannot access it online. It is possible that I messed with something to turn off the web interface when it was launching in the previous version. I think I looked up how to stop it from opening and did that but do not know how to enable it. I attached the debug log as told in the how to get help section. I have attached the debug file as suggested so please tell me how to get UMS back to normal operations. Thank you kindly in advance for any helpful information. Ok after further investigation UMS is not connecting to my local network. I attached a photo and it is actually connecting to 192.168.1.120.5001 & 9002 and it is not showing any content in the shared folders that I designated. I am truly confused now. Thought I had it running at least but now its saying no content found so i assume it is not connected as it should be. Ok I am getting a message from my ps4 that says cannot connect to media server is not allowing ps4 to connect but its detecting UMS but not accessing the folders. Please help.

UMS is not connecting to your ISP and port 9001 is for the web interface. To get to the web interface on your local machine the address is http://localhost:9001/

Port 5001 is used by your renderers to connect to UMS, and 9002 is the web player. 192.168.1.120 is your computers IP so this is correct.

Sometimes it can take a few seconds for UMS to discover renderers on your network as they don't transmit they are there all the time.
UMS will also do speed tests for each renderer so they might not appear till this is finished.

Your logs cut out too early before UMS has finished initialising and announcing its presence on the network so can't see any attempt to find renderers.

The zip file includes the previous logs but as they were not in trace mode they are not very helpful, but it does show that your PS4 on IP 192.168.1.128 was found and connected.
There were no errors in either of them so it should be working fine.

Could you redo your logs but wait a few minutes after UMS restarts. If you see UMS on your PS4 then try to browse your files before packing the logs so I can see the attempt and why nothing is returned.

Im not the brightest bulb around so what do you mean by browse the files if I see the ps4? I will attempt to redo the logs but I tried to explain that UMS does not connect to my ps4 when it starts up. It attempts to connect to 9001 but never does and when I click restart UMS then it shows up, so there is no actual way it will connect during the trace if I do not click on the restart button in UMS. I also said that my web browser is greyed out and I cannot view anything from online. I can only see the old settings since the web browser option is not working. I will run another trace as you requested and attach it here. Ok I attached another log for you to see and as I stated previously, my ps4 does not show up because UMS is trying to connect to the web when it starts up, but after that if I click on the restart server button in UMS it brings up the address of my ps4 and it shows up in UMS but is not connected to the ps4 because I get a message when I start windows media player on my ps4 that says it cannot connect to the media server because the server is not allowing it to do so and in return I cannot see any files from UMS. As I also said the web settings are greyed out and not accessible as well. Thank you kindly for your help, much appreciated.

When UMS appears on the PS4 media player go in it and select your shared folder. This will make UMS send a list of all the files inside that folder so you can select one and play.
If none of the files appear then I will be able to see why.

If you have the PS4 media player open before starting UMS it will look like this
PS4 mediaplayer no content.jpg
PS4 mediaplayer no content.jpg (150.15 KiB) Viewed 3433 times

Then when you start UMS it will change to this.
PS4 mediaplayer found server.jpg
PS4 mediaplayer found server.jpg (121.95 KiB) Viewed 3433 times

Don't hit the restart button, just wait a bit till UMS has time to find renderers. If nothing comes up after several minutes then pack the logs then and I will see why nothing is being detected.

From the logs it is using port 9001 so you should be able to access the settings by going to http://localhost:9001/

Code: Select all

INFO 2024-01-03 15:48:01.334 [main] net.pms.PMS GUI is available at: http://localhost:9001
What do you mean the web settings is greyed out and cannot access them? Could you post a screenshot? Do the same with the error on the PS4 too.
Also the PS4 does not use windows media player so I'm not sure what you mean.

You said you did new logs, did you forget to attach them?

Oh my goodness I do not think I understood you correctly. You want screen shots from my tv of my ps4 showing UMS. Is that correct? I selected the folder I wanted UMS to scan when it starts up but every time I close UMS it clears the checked box for shared folders so when I reboot my pc and UMS starts up and I open UMS it shows the shared folder box unchecked so no way for it to scan. I am gonna take a couple photos of my tv when my ps4 boots up to show you that UMS is there but is not communicating with my pc. Sorry if I am getting all this wrong but I am trying to explain and understand you as well. I am also going to take a photo of my samsung tv finding UMS but no folder with the movies is found so I honestly do not know if they would show up on my tv if the box for shared folders would stay checked when I reboot my pc. Yep i am 100% lost and I apologize for my ignorance sorry about the bad photos but I am sure you can see what you need to.

Your new logs are almost the same as the previous ones, you have packed them too early when UMS was still initialising. Please do them again but wait for 5 minutes before packing the logs.

You never answered my question about web settings. Can you get to them by clicking here http://localhost:9001/ or you can also double click the tray icon.

From the picture UMS is detecting your PS4 so it should be working. Maybe something on your computer is blocking some of the communication.
Do you have a separate antivirus/firewall? Try turning it off or make sure UMS has access though it.

I don't understand what you mean by clearing the shared folders checkbox.

I will try to explain to you what is going on with the logs. At least I think the reason why you are not getting any information is like I told you when I first open up UMS in the bottom left corner it has dots on the top address and the bottom only says local 9002 and I do not think it is connecting at all until I click on restart and I assume there is not way for me to reproduce that happening since in is in trace mode and cannot be restarted. What a disaster. I assure you after I started the trace I waited at least 15 minutes so it had more than sufficient time to do anything and I do not believe it is even trying to connect when UMS first opens up. When I reboot my pc and UMS opens it does not connect to my isp. It sits idol with local 9002 bottom left until I click on restart in the app. So I understand you not being able to analyze the logs but I have done everything exactly as you requested. If there is another way for me to get the information you need then please let me know as I am 100% lost for sure. I will do a trace 1 more time and attach it here but I am almost positive you will not get the info you need since it never connects to my isp during the trace. At least that is the way it seems to me and if that is impossible then I have no idea whats happening. Thank you for all your help

I actually let UMS run for 90 minutes before running the trace but I am pretty sure you will get the exact same readings unfortunately because I do not think UMS attempts to connect if i do not restart it when I am in the app.

I think you are getting confused about the servers displayed on the bottom left of the GUI. These are normal when UMS is detected on your network but probably not if UMS has not initialised.
gottuhaveit wrote: Sun Jan 07, 2024 4:23 am UMS opens it does not connect to my isp
I don't know what you mean by this. UMS will not need to connect to your ISP, it is local to your network but can optionally get metadata online when it is working but not needed.

You still did not answer what happens when you go to the web settings on http://localhost:9001/ or if you are using a firewall or antivirus.

In your new logs I see the same thing and UMS is not finish initialising, but I calculated the time between the first and last lines and it was over 90 mins so there is definitely something wrong here.

I started to compare it with my log and it looks the same up till this point.

So looks to be something wrong with tsMuxeR not able to run and causing an exception error. I don't see how this would prevent the rest of the initialisation though as it should just say not available and move on. If I rename tsMuxeR.exe on my computer so its not found it is just skipped. Try that on yours and see if that makes a difference. This is just one of the transcoding engines and you will probably not be using it anyway.

What happens if you open a command prompt (type cmd on the windows search bar) and run this command? post the reply on here.

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server\bin\tsMuxeR.exe" -v
What I don't get is that it does work sometimes as it shows on your PS4, maybe resetting does not go to the start of the initialisation process but skips to a point after this.
One way to see this in the logs is to force UMS to be in trace mode instead of it just switching to it once till its reset.
Quit UMS then edit UMS.conf in C:\ProgramData\UMS with a text editor and add this line to the end

Code: Select all

log_level =TRACE
Start UMS and then then click restart till UMS shows on your PS4 like before. When it does try to open it up on the PS4 then pack the log files and then I should be able to see everything.

C:\Users\Ds>"C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server\bin\tsMuxeR.exe" -v
tsMuxeR version git-3bd1492. github.com/justdan96/tsMuxer

Above are the results when i copy and pasted the info in command prompt.

I sincerely apologize for not responding about the local 9001 and the answer is absolutely nothing. It just sits there with the page loading and thats it. It does nothing else whatsoever and opens a blank white page. There
is something else that I just remembered. I was having issues with UMS so I uninstalled it. Well I tried to uninstall it and I cannot no matter what I do. I actually quit inside the app as suggested and then tried to uninstall it with revo uninstaller and with windows 10 uninstaller but could not remove the app completely. After that I just installed it again and it worked for a while but now nothing. Maybe it not uninstalling completely is part of the issue but as I said before I am not a wizard with computers in any way.

Not sure if I understood you correctly about where to place the line you posted but hopefully I did it correctly. Thank you very much for your help and hopefully we will get this working properly again soon.
