Settings for playing MKV on Xbox360

Hi all,

After using Tversity for quite sometime is decided to try USM. Mainly because of support for mkv files.

UMS seems to work, my UMS is visible on the xbox and I can browse files that i've added. Playing an avi file is no problem and works fine.
When i try to play an mkv file it takes a long time to open the file and a message pops up giving an "Unplayable content" errormsg.

Going to the UMS console i can see these kind of errors:

Code: Select all

12-24 17:00:53 Process C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server\win32\mencoder.exe has a return code of 3! Maybe an error occurred... check the log file
12-24 17:01:13 Process C:\Program Files (x86)\Universal Media Server\win32\ffmpeg.exe has a return code of 1! Maybe an error occurred... check the log file
What could be wrong, am I missing some settings in the program?

My setup:
UMS version 2.2.1
Windows 7
I do have Shark007 codecs installed.

Thanks in advance!
Kind regards.

I tried PMS today. Had the same problem there but i could steam with the lowerst quality.
My PC is i5 with 4GB mem, that can not be the problem. Even the wifi connection my xbox had worked with Tversity.

See here for similar issues with Mencoder error 3: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=382

The fix may be to replace the mencoder.exe with a slightly older version (SB42).

I've been getting the older version from here: https://code.google.com/p/mplayer-subju ... p&can=4&q=

There are two methods to play MKV on Xbox 360:

Method 1: If you are using Windows computer, you can use a media server called TVersity to stream files from your computer to your Xbox 360. It can play .mkv files along with many others. Simply scan your chosen libraries with TVersity and then select it from the Xbox dashboard. It's very simple and easy to use.

Free download here:

Method 2: If you are using Windows or Mac computer, you may use a third party software like iDealshare VideoGo to convert MKV to Xbox 360 supported video format,
Free download here:

It also can convert FLV, MOV, MPG, 3GP, WebM, H.265, AVCHD, etc to Xbox 360.
